FORMAT In-person. This is a guided hands-on workshop — taught experientially.
WHAT’S INCLUDED In-person workshop includes all art materials to use for the day. You’ll receive a list of materials for online workshop.
Stepping into the Unknown invites you to play and experiment with different forms in one sitting. Your practice is your own, held in the same room as everyone else doing theirs. We move between forms — painting for a bit, moving your body at whatever pace it wants to go, and finding moments of spontaneous, spoken expression. However it comes to you is exactly how it's meant to go. Each medium is a doorway into the next – an invitation to play with paint and follow the colors and shapes wherever they want to go. You'll move to your own rhythm, letting the movement be exactly as big or as small as it wants to be. We'll use theater exercises to loosen up — whatever you say is made up on the spot, existing only for that moment, with the process itself as the point.
There is time to reflect, individually and collectively. In the end, what you make is a marker of that one moment – a reminder of the time you spent trying something new alongside others who showed up ready to follow their imagination and intuition.

By the end of the day
You'll have tried painting, movement, and a bit of spontaneous theater, all in the same afternoon, each one easing you into the next.
You'll have moved your body at exactly the size and pace that felt right to you, with a room full of people doing that same thing right alongside you.
You'll have said something out loud that surprised even you, existing fully in that one moment before it passed.
You'll leave with something you made that marks this exact day — a reminder, whenever you look at it again, of what it felt like to play for a couple of hours.
No experience needed. Space is limited to a small group.
WHO IT’S FOR This is for you if you're drawn to the idea of moving through paint, movement, and theater at your own pace. Whether you're craving a little guided, but unstructured play, want to make something with your hands and let it become whatever it becomes, or are just looking to try something new, this is a chance to work directly with Kim Wilson, facilitator, and co-editor of We Grow the World Together: Parenting Toward Abolition.

I do my best to book venues that are fully accessible and that have bathrooms. We paint on tables — though some people may choose to work on the floor. Movement exercises can be done sitting, standing, or on laying down. Whatever feels best for you. If you have needs not covered here, that would make your participation possible, please reach out. I will do my best.

No. Come as you are and bring your curiosity — that's all this practice asks of you.
-
Water and snacks for yourself.
An apron, smock, or old shirt, to protect your clothing.
A willingness to try, and a warm smile to greet fellow makers.
-
I don't publicly share photos of participants. Images of your work are only shared with your consent. The same goes for each other — please don't photograph or record fellow participants without their consent, and don't post session photos to social media. Take the lessons, leave the details!

Plans change — reach out as soon as you know, and we'll sort out the best option together, whether that's moving you to another date or something else.

If I need to cancel a session for any reason, you'll hear from me as soon as possible, and you'll have the choice of a full refund or moving to another date — whichever works better for you.
