The Essentials: People Skills Workshop
A skills-based multi-session workshop designed to build interpersonal competencies around communication, problem solving, collaboration, and leadership readiness.
ORGANIZATIONS AND SMALL GROUPS
Communication, problem solving, collaboration, and leadership readiness are interconnected capacities that show up together at work – often in the same conversation, even the same moment. For example, giving feedback well also means solving a real problem in the moment. This can be complicated by differing approaches and competing priorities. If the feedback is between peers it will land differently than between a supervisor and a peer. But what if it's between a newly promoted worker and someone they were peers with? The Essentials treats these four capacities as one connected skill set, built around how they show up together.
This four-session workshop brings practical tools to life across four areas. First, participants practice clear, direct communication across formats, audiences, and levels of an organization. Second, exercising critical thinking under pressure, and making decisions when the ground shifts. Third, working collaboratively, navigating tension, and building trust within the group. Finally, cultivating leadership skills for workers moving into or already in supervisory roles.
These four skills are the foundation everything else gets built on – every project, every meeting, every interaction with clients. Upskilling your staff with this foundational workshop equips them with tools they need to handle whatever comes up.

WHO IT’S FOR
Staff across all levels of an organization. From entry-level to senior staff, everyone who's actually part of an organization's day-to-day operations, not just the people formally responsible for managing others.
New team leads. People stepping into a leadership role for the first time, learning to navigate conflict from a new vantage point — not just experiencing it, but now responsible for helping others move through it too.
Community members. People building these same skills for the relationships and spaces they navigate outside a single workplace — not tied to one employer or program.
Job seekers and workers in workforce development programs. People training for skilled roles that don't require a four-year degree, who need real communication, problem-solving, and collaboration skills alongside their technical training.
People for whom steady employment isn't a given. Participants who benefit from direct, practical practice with communication, problem solving, and collaboration before they're navigating them for the first time under real workplace pressure.
Every skill here is one your staff can start using right away.
Foundational Skills
Building the emotional capacity to remain steady when a situation is uncertain or shifting; recognizing when your own approach has stopped working, and adjusting instead of holding onto it out of habit; managing cognitive dissonance that comes with new challenges; and navigating new ground and taking on more responsibility.
Relational Skills
Communicating clearly in person and in writing, including getting the tone right and using plain language; practicing active listening and confirming understanding before taking action; adjusting how you communicate across different roles.
Critical Thinking Skills
Questioning assumptions instead of accepting the first read on a problem; weighing real options instead of defaulting to the first solution that comes to mind; prioritizing competing demands instead of treating everything as equally urgent; choosing the right channel or approach for a given situation
Team and Collaboration Skills
Giving feedback that's direct enough to be useful and respectful enough to be heard; receiving feedback without treating it as a verdict on your worth; coordinating with people across roles, teams, or departments; building enough trust that people are willing to say what they actually think without fear.
Initiative Skills
Making decisions and communicating them in a way people can follow and trust; influencing outcomes without relying on formal authority; staying accountable when a decision affects other people, not just yourself.
Leadership Skills
Delegating responsibility and offering clear guidance; navigating the shift from peer to lead, when you’re suddenly responsible for people who used to be your co-workers; making decisions under pressure without guidance; communicating in both directions – representing and advocating for your team to management, and translating priorities that affect your team in a way that maintains morale.
